Welcome to the WRBBOF

The World Registry of Black Belts, Martial Arts Organizations, Federations and was founded in 2002 by Barry Moyer (RIP) of Indiana.  Barry was able to get two of Okinawa's top level intructors; Tetsuhiro Hokama-Hanshi and Masahiro Nakamoto-Hanshi, to serve as advisors to the WRBBOF.  The purpose was to design a registry of legitimately ranked individuals who have actually earned their black belt.

Many in today’s society are claiming the black belt without any real training, or from any real source.  The WRBBOF was developed so that Legitimate martial artist can be acknowledged for their dedication to the martial arts and the hard work it took to become a black belt (the real deal).

With so many new styles and re-introduction of many of the old, the martial arts has seen a tremendous boom in the amount of people becoming martial arts students.  But many do not finish or only study a few months and then claim to be a black belt. The WRBBOF and its members work hard to insure that all of the applicants are reviewed and researched.

This research is done through a network of legitimate black belts around the world; the internet and phone. With the aid of these services we can confirm many of the applicants history and training.

We would like to welcome all legitimate Black Belts and Organizations.

The WRBBOF is not a diploma mill and we will not sell rank.

We do not grade for rank, although we could.  We are just a registry, so your rank must have been earned from your respective teacher and or organization.

We follow all International NGB’s bodies requirement for ranks, unless circumstances warrants other consideration.

We do our homework and make sure that those who claim to have a Black Belt in any respective art are truly a Black Belt.  The information gathered during the applicaton process will help us to determine whether or not the applicant is the real deal.  Please remmber this while filling out your application and be sure to include information that really can be verified.  Thank You!

This website is dedicated to the WRBBOF Founder, Hanshi Barry Moyer,  June 18, 1953 ~ July 3, 2015.  We will best honor Hanshi Moyer by continuing on with this registry and using the integrity, honesty, oppenness, and professionalism (IHOP) that Hashi Moyer utilized in all of his personal and professional interactions with others.

Hanshi Barry Moyer had poured himself into the WRBBOF for 13 years before he passed away.  He had the respect and cooperation of individuals and organizations from all over the world.  To restart or continue the work that Hanshi Moyer had put into the WRBBOF, it will require the assistance and patience of everyone concerned.  Thank you all for your support of the WRBBOF.
